We will get to know the coffee of Cooperative La Voz visiting the coffee fields and touring the wet mill to see the entire process up close. We will then rewind time and learn how coffee was (and sometimes still is) prepared by hand by doing so ourselves. Additionally, we will examine how Guatemala became a coffee-exporting country and the socio-political consequences of this global industry.
We'll start the day with a sunrise hike to a nearby lookout point to truly take in the breathtaking views of Lake Atitlán. Afterwards, we'll get the chance test our senses in a cupping (coffee-tasting) workshop. We will wrap up the day by participating in a forum with associates of the cooperative to learn more about the history of Cooperative La Voz and the impact that it has had in the community since it was founded in 1979.
